Previcox (firocoxib) Chewables for Dogs is used for the control of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and for the control of postoperative pain and inflammation associated with soft-tissue and orthopedic surgery in dogs. Previcox Chewable Tablets contain firocoxib, a coxib-class, non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). The recommended dosage of Previcox Chewable Tablets is 2.27 mg/lb of body weight once daily. How it works:
Previcox is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by inhibiting the COX-2 enzyme which generates the chemicals that are responsible for pain and inflammation.

Previcox is not a cure, but can effectively manage the symptoms of pain and inflammation.

How to give this medication:
Previcox is a chewable tablet to be given orally. The recommended dosage is 2.27 mg per pound body weight, given once daily. It may be given with or without food. Give this medication exactly as directed by your veterinarian. If you do not understand the directions, ask the veterinarian or pharmacist to explain them to you.

If you miss a dose:
Give the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and give the regular dose as directed. Do not double dose.

Previcox should not be used in:
Do not use Previcox in dogs weighing less than 12.5 pounds because it cannot be accurately dosed due to tablet sizes and scoring. The use of Previcox in dogs less than 7 months of age has been associated with serious reactions, including death.

Possible side effects:
The use of NSAIDs may cause stomach upset, with the potential to product gastric ulcers. Adverse reactions may include vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, dark or tarry stools, excessive thirst, increased urination, pale gums due to anemia, yellowing of gums, skin or white of the eye due to jaundice, lethargy, incoordination, seizure or behavioral changes. If you observe any of these side effects, contact your veterinarian as soon as possible.
